College Wall . . .

Since I have started the new project, I dont think I have posted a photo of my wall at college where all my work is displayed. I am experimenting with sewing onto a canvas and the idea of making it more 3D as I progress towards a final piece.

Nails in a Board . . .

I am now in week 5 of my final project at HCA, and excluding 2 weeks at easter, I have 4 weeks left to finish my project. So far I have looked at different buildings, like the pictures below, but I have explored and developed the techniques used. Such as sewing through paper to create the image or like in this case, nails in a board.

Spirograph Buildings (Photo Edits) . . .

Buildings I have taken photographs of, and edited using Photoshop, to create the Spirograph design. I eventually hope these images and the spirograph shapes created from them will become absrtract 3D pieces.

3D Spirograph Triangles . . .

Onto my final project at College now, and this is the one which will generate a grade at the end of the course. It is following along the lines of the Spirograph yet on buildings. These are the first 3D pieces I have made which are tests for the method of production. The orange triangle is spirograph design sewn onto clear plastic and then the four pieces sewn together. The purple one is created stringing thread around pins then pva gluing over, untill the glue is dry, and then sewn together. The green triangle is made from creating a frame from wooden downling, sawing notches along each piece, then wrapping the thread in a spirograph design, then attaching them together by sewing. I decided the method by which the orange triangle is made is much better.

Portfolio Section One . . .

I have applied for a place on the Contemporary Applied Arts Degree Course at Hereford College of Arts, today was my Interview and I'm happy to say that I have got a place. The following images Portfolio Section One to Four are images of the Portfolio I put together for the Interview, basically all of the work I have achieved so far except any 3D pieces.

Spirograph Buildings . . .

Trying to move my project on to its final exam stage, of 7 - 10 weeks work, keeping the idea of stringing and spirographing, yet moving the focus away from circluar form, to buldings or geometric objects.

Crochet Bag . . .

Decided to learn the Art of Crochet through the form of a magazine, in it is a bag design and I thought I'd try it out. Not yet finished, but starting to look not to bad.

Large Layered Spirograph . . .

So I mentioned the idea of creating several possible outcomes for the current project. Well although I am experimenting in these pieces with layering, which ment hacksawing grooves into nails, not fun, they are also possible outcomes, although alot of my work I can see on a much larger scale than 30cmx30cm circles.

Photographs Evolved . . .

The photograph I had taken developed into twelve mdf discs, each bore a different surface image from the series of photos I had taken. They then under took the laborious process of weaving thread around pannel pins to create the Spirograph design I have come to love.

Coming close to the end of our project at college, and we are asked to produce possible outcomes for our work. I decided to use the idea of installation, which I had been inspired by the work of Donald Judd, Minimalist, and try and get the Spirograph into the environment. Initially i took photos of a clear Spirograph disc against different outside surfaces.

Hanging Spirographs . . .

Adding another dimension to my work I produced some hung Spirograph forms, the three black rings, were inspired by Donald Judd the founder of Minimalism, who I had not long written an essay on.
